Eagles Defeat Maranatha for the First Time in 20 Years at Their Place

Eagles Defeat Maranatha for the First Time in 20 Years at Their Place

Coming into Tuesday night's game against Maranatha, the Emmaus men had a long losing streak against the Sabercats when playing in the Watertown, WI gymnasium.  The odds weren't looking in the Eagles favor but the game still had to be played.

From the beginning of the game, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead in part by the marksmanship of guard Caleb Postma.  During warmups, Caleb was on fire and his three point shooting was a key weapon early on.  The Eagles held there lead throughout the first half although the Sabercats cut the lead to 5 points with only 7 seconds to play in the half.  After receiving the inbounds pass, Steven Horan advanced the ball into the backcourt and found Postma behind the three point line for a huge basket that pushed the Eagles lead back up to 8 points at the intermission.  Postma had 12 first half points and Horan also chipped in 12 points as well.

The second half saw the Sabercats begin to claw back.  Using a full court press late in the game, the Cats made their move and Eagles lead began to dwindle.  Fortunately, the Eagles were 11-15 at the free throw line in the second half which helped hold off the Sabercats, giving them their second win of the season.

Three players hit double figures for the Eagles with Horan leading the way with 32 points.  Postma added 16 and Cody Cunard delivered 13.  Elijah Reeves continued his hustle on the boards with 14 caroms and Matthew Tomlinson contributed 9 points.

On the ride home, the Eagles stopped for food at a Wendys restaurant and noticed two women discussing what looked like the Bible with a teenager.  One Eagle player approached the trio and proceeded to begin a conversation with them.  Here to find out, the trio were with a group of people that hold very different views on Jesus than what the Scripture clearly teaches.  Later on, another player and an assistant coach joined the conversation.  If you would like, would you pray for these three people as seeds were planted regarding the truth of God's Word.  It was a good opportunity for evangelism for the team members involved.  Another reminder of the real battle for souls that exists in our world and of what is really important in life.
