Janke Joins the Eagles

Giovanni Janke has signed a letter of intent to join the Eagles this upcoming season! Janke excels on the court and in the classroom as is shown in his many accolades, which include the following:

Janke was the starting point guard for Ball High School in Galveston, Texas since his freshman year. While there, he was Team Captain, 3 yr. letterman, 3 yr. All-District Selected, 2 yr. All- Galveston County. Janke excels academically as part of the National Honor Society and was chosen "Selected Team Player" All-Tournament in Pensacola, Florida. Janke played AAU for Houston Hyde and was nominated MVP two years in a row. In addition, Giovanni was hand-picked to represent the surrounding Houston area as "Athlete of the Year." Janke averaged 12 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block per game his senior year while being picked as Academic All-State player for Ball High.

Giovanni's high school coach, Jerald Temple had high praise to give and said "Giovanni lead the Golden Tornadoes to back-to-back playoff appearances as the Tors posted their best two-year win total in years. His commitment to excellence and strong leadership ability held the Tors as they competed for the district championship the last two years."

"I am very excited that Giovanni chose us and believes in what we are building." Coach Graw exclaimed, "He is a traditional point guard who can hit the open shot and penetrate the lane to dish off for the assist or finish at the rim. With the mentality of a fierce defender and competitor, Giovanni reminds me of a young Kirk Hinrich in his prime. This is a huge addition for us!"

"Emmaus is a good fit for me. I plan to study Pre-Professional Health Science while playing collegiate basketball and further my spiritual journey as well." Janke continued, "In addition, Coach Graw is a good leader and I am excited to be part of this strong team he is building. I'm truly grateful for this opportunity. Let's go Eagles!"

Giovanni plans to Major in Biblical Studies with a concentration in Pre-Professional Health Sciences.
