Men's Soccer Welcome Back Shiels

Men's Soccer Welcome Back Shiels

Evan Shiels of Southfield, MI becomes the second commitment to the men's soccer program for 2024, returning to Emmaus after having competed for the Eagles in Fall 2022.

Shiels, a high school graduate of Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, WI, started all 16 games for Emmaus during the 2022 season, featuring prominently at both right back and center back along the defensive line.

Shiels addition to the roster marks the second veteran newcomer to the group for 2024, following the recent transfer announcement of Jake Matte.

"We're thrilled to welcome Evan back to Dubuque and to Emmaus!" shared head coach Chris McHugh. "My staff and I loved working with Evan in 2022 and he really made steady improvement throughout that year! In the past 6 months, we've added so many new players into our program, and it'll be fun to see Evan re-integrate and build relationships with these guys.

"But mostly, we're excited to invest in Evan on and off the field over the next couple years as he takes these next steps in his faith journey and continues moving towards his future goals."

On choosing to return to Emmaus, Shiels shared, "I really enjoyed my first year at Emmaus and after taking a year off I'm very excited to return and to continue my soccer career, as well as to continue strengthening my relationship with Christ. I am very excited to get to share the field both with my old teammates as well as some new ones and to also continue to learn from the coaches. Returning to Emmaus was an easy decision and I cannot wait to get back to work alongside my teammates and coaches!"
