"We are One" - Season Recap

Women's Basketball 2016-2017 Season Recap

Dubuque, IA - Over the last four years, the women's basketball team of Emmaus Bible College has been on a roller coaster that only goes up. Back in the 2013-2014 season, the team finished with zero wins. Now, a mere three years later, the team just ended their season with an overall record of 22-5, and a conference record of 11-0. This is the second year in a row that the Lady Eagles have won both the MCCC regular season and tournament championship. This feat was done with what some might call ease, though there were hours of effort put into practice throughout the season. The Lady Eagles finished as runner-up in the ACCA national championship, falling second to Arlington Baptist College. (Awards earned by individual players are listed below.)

How did head coach Kyle Graw turn the team around in just a few short years? The answer is twofold. First, Coach Graw has a very special vision for the team. Second, Graw has recruited players who are committed to that vision and committed to their teammates.

"There is something special about these ladies. As a Coach, I couldn't have been blessed with a better group of girls who, on the court, put aside their own glory for something much bigger. A group of girls who, on the court, considered others better than themselves for the sake of the whole. There's no perfection in unity on this earth, that's why Jesus prayed that prayer in John 17, but every once in a while you see a glimpse of it as a group of individuals humbly put others before themselves and strive to be 'perfectly one.' I am honored to have had the privilege of coaching these amazing ladies this year. Thank you for all your hard work, sacrifice, and willingness to buy into the vision, which is ultimately Christ's vision for the Church."

The Lady Eagles base their mission upon the following verses from the Bible.

John 17:20-23
"20 I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me."
