Lady Eagles Claim 4th MCCC Championship in 5 Years

The Lady Eagles improved to 9-0 in conference play for the 2020 season, claiming back-to-back MCCC Tournament Championships, and earning their 4th tournament title in the last 5 years.

The #1-seeded Eagles came to Joplin, MO with a poise and purpose to their game, and left the Ozark Christian College campus with two victories, over the #5-seeded CCCB Saints in the semifinal, and the #2-seeded Calvary Warriors in the championship game.

In the semifinal, the Lady Eagles used their pressure defense and a balanced attack to keep the Saints on their heels for four quarters.  The Eagles won the scoreline in each quarter, and were paced by double-doubles from Kia Gelinas and Tiffany Williams.  Gelinas finished with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, while Williams posted 28 points, 21 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals.

One night later, the Lady Eagles came out flying and posted one of their best quarters of the year.  Kia Gelinas led the way with 18 first-quarter points, connecting three times from beyond the arc, and pushed the Eagles to a 36-13 lead over the Warriors at the end of the first quarter.

Although the Warriors would prove relentless with their own full-court pressure and effort over the next three quarters, the Lady Eagles withstood the Calvary surges, and came away on top.  All eight Lady Eagles players scored on the night, and at the final buzzer the Eagles had secured a 94-79 victory.

With the win, the Lady Eagles extended their win streak to 6 in a row, and carry momentum into this week's NCCAA North Regional Tournament in Ellendale, ND.

The Lady Eagles will look to extend that streak further, and earn a trip back to Joplin, MO for the NCCAA National Tournament in two weeks.
