Lady Eagles Make History in Manhattan!

MANHATTAN, KS – The Emmaus volleyball team will play in its first ever championship match
tomorrow, as the Lady Eagles defeated Faith Baptist Bible College 3-1 in the MCCC tournament
semi-finals in Manhattan, KS.
Emmaus stormed out of the gate and had the Lady Eagles of Faith on their heels in sets one and two, cruising to 25-16 and 25-10 victories. "Everything was going our way and we forced Faith into generating a lot of errors," commented Coach Pitman. "They are a well-coached and strong opponent and we said after set two that we expected new strategies from Faith and that they would do everything they could to gain momentum."
Indeed it was a different Faith team that emerged, and put Emmaus in the hole with tough serving and hard hitting. The Lady Eagles could not string together any good runs and struggled defensively. Faith capitalized on every opportunity they had and put the set away with a 15-25 score.
Emmaus regained composure in set four which closely resembled the teams' regular season meetings, as the score went back and forth and the teams stayed within 2-3 points of each other for most of the set. Faith pulled away at the end of the set and the Lady Eagles were in a tough spot, as they called timeout with the score 21-24. "We said in the timeout that we were going to score three more points, and then handle what would happen next," said Coach Pitman. True to their word, the Lady Eagles returned to the floor and generated five unanswered points to seal the match (26-24)
"We did a fantastic job today of our goal of winning the next point and not worrying if we got in tight situations," said Coach Pitman. "The ladies never got down on themselves and no matter what the score was they believed they could win the next ball, which is the reason for our success. That mentality is what we have been working towards all season, and as coaches we are incredibly proud of what these young women did today. It is a great accomplishment for us, but more importantly we retained our testimony and played for God's glory all day."
Emmaus plays the winner of the other semi-final match which features Manhattan and Ozark. Match time is 2:00 pm tomorrow.
