Lady Eagles Win in Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, WI - The Lady Eagles swept the Lady Cavaliers of Western Technical College 3-0 on Friday evening.

"Western Tech plays in a very tough NJCAA conference, and we weren't sure what type of game to expect from them tonight," commented Coach Pitman.

This was the first road match for the Lady Eagles after a long home stand, and the cold and dreary travel conditions of the day seemed to take their toll on the team in the first set. Emmaus has trouble establishing tempo, and the Lady Cavaliers started the set with some very strong attacking. The teams stayed within several points of each other for the first half of the set, but a key serving run by Wynne Vandersall allowed the Lady Eagles to pull away, earning a 25-14 victory. Sets 2 and 3 played out almost exactly the same, with tight play by both teams for the first part, and Emmaus dominating the second part (25-14, 25-15).

"We actually did play well tonight against a worthy opponent," said Coach Pitman after the match. "Our only struggle was to maintain the type of tempo that we would like to be playing at. Kudos to Western Tech for playing a hard fought and strong defensive match."

Paige Sweeney had her biggest night of the season with 13 kills and just a single error. Wynne Vandersall and Alli Howard split the outside offense evenly with 8 kills each, and Lyndra Davis contributed 5. Hannah Postma had 32 assists as Emmaus hit .265 on the night. Libero Savannah Petersen had 17 digs.

Emmaus travels to Minneapolis Saturday for a tri-match with NCAA opponent Macalester College and a NCCAA regional match with a tough North Central University squad.
