Lady Eagles Sweep Opening Weekend

Lady Eagles Sweep Opening Weekend

DUBUQUE, IA – The Emmaus volleyball team took to the court for their first official matches this weekend, ending up with a 4-0 record by sweeping each opponent 3-0.

Friday night saw the Lady Eagles meet up with Kansas Christian College (NCCAA – Kansas City, MO), a team playing in their inaugural season.  All 12 players contributed to the Emmaus win as the Lady Eagles were able to control the pacing of the match.

Gogebic Community College (NJCAA DII – Ironwood, MI) was up next for Emmaus, and again the Lady Eagles were able to find strong ball control and kept their offense in motion.  Emmaus took the win with scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-13.

On Saturday morning, the Lady Eagles completed the double header with a win against Gogebic in similar fashion, (25-10, 25-8, 25-13).  In the second match of the triangular, Emmaus was pitted against Silver Lake (NAIA – Manitowoc, WI).  The Lady Eagles came out a bit tired after a long weekend of being in the humid Pollard Fieldhouse, but stuck to their game plan and emerged with a 25-12, 25-11, 25-17 victory.

"This was a good weekend for us to take inventory of our strengths and weaknesses as a team," commented Coach Pitman.  "I appreciated each player's involvement and willingness to do the job asked of them, whether in a starting or supporting role, as we seek to determine our most effective lineups.  I love how the team is playing with unity, and we would like to thank the fans for their excellent support already this season!"

The Lady Eagles will be off for Labor Day, and then head into a busy week on the road.  After a scrimmage against University of Dubuque on Tuesday, Emmaus heads to Milwaukee next weekend for a double header with NCCAA DIII opponent Mount Mary University, as well as a neutral site match against NCCAA Mid-East Region powerhouse Grace Christian University.
