Emmaus Wins First Battle of the Eagles

DUBUQUE, IA – Emmaus defeated the visiting Eagles from Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Eagles of Dubuque were able to hit a consistent .223 for the match, and generated 16 service aces.

Nicole Gordon had her biggest night to date, as the senior outside hitter put down 10 kills and had 4 aces.  Paige Sweeney contributed 11 kills and Lyndra Davis chipped in 6.

"I was pleased with our aggressive play tonight, and even though we had some unforced errors and miscues, they were a result of working on aspects of our game that need to improve," commented Coach Pitman.  "We lacked a bit of intensity and focus in the third set, but overall we were able to pace the match well and we saw a lot of good tempo play from everyone.  I appreciated the effort by both teams and the good fellowship that happens when our schools meet to play."

The Lady Eagles now look to their first MCCC seeding matches this weekend.  Emmaus will travel to Joplin, MO to face Ozark Christian College on Friday, and then take on Calvary University on Saturday in Kansas City.
