Emmaus Falls in First Conference Matches

MANHATTAN, KS - The Lady Eagles were hopeful for good results in their first MCCC matches of the season, but returned home from Kansas winless as they lost to Manhattan Christian College 0-3 and Barclay College 1-3.

Emmaus played a solid match against Manhattan on Friday, but the Lady Thunder simply overpowered them at the net.  Errors on serve receive forced the Lady Eagles to play catch up, but though they lost in straight sets there were positive moments of play throughout the match.

On Saturday Emmaus took on Barclay, and the two teams appeared evenly matched as they traded points in set one, with Barclay taking a close victory.  The Lady Eagles found some tempo play and took set two handily, but set three was another battle.  With Emmaus up 23-21, Barclay responded with 4 straight points to win the set and steal the momentum.  Set four was all Barclay as they maintained control and sealed the match.

"I believe we did a decent job on Friday night in the Manhattan game - our numbers were good for where we are at in our play, but they were simply the better team," commented Coach Pitman.  "We could have performed better against Barclay - so we are looking to identify the areas of our game that need improvement and will continue to work towards that end."

The Lady Eagles will have three practices to prepare for their next test this week, as they face MCCC opponent Ozark Christian College on Friday night at home.  First serve is 6:00 pm in the Pollard Fieldhouse.
