Emmaus Battles in Home Triangular

DUBUQUE, IA – The Lady Eagles split their tri-match this Saturday at the Pollard Fieldhouse, with a win over Calvary University and a loss against Moody Bible Institute.

The morning match against the Lady Warriors of Calvary was both an MCCC and NCCAA DII North Region contest.   Emmaus was able to post a .172 hitting percentage and had 41 earned points, which helped them to seal the match in straight sets.  Against the Moody Lady Archers (another North Region opponent), it took all five sets to determine the winner, with Moody prevailing 12-15 in the fifth.

"I was very proud of our team play today - we are continuing to improve and I liked that we were able to regain focus when we hit some rough patches," said Coach Pitman.  "We faced two good teams and we were competitive in both matches – it is exciting to see us grow!"

Morgan Thiessen dished up 50 assists on the day, and Verah Banasky had 35 digs.  Paulina Velderrain led with 30 kills and 6 aces, and Megan Baily contributed 5 aces of her own.  Lyndra Davis and Lexi Taylor contributed 18 and 13 kills respectively.  Shel Gaines had 5 kills and 2 solo blocks, and Emma Barsness had 2 digs.  Alex Carroll had 5 kills and a block assist as she replaced Cory Brodmerkle (injured) for the day.
