A Job Well Done

WATERTOWN, WI – The Lady Eagles ended the 2019 campaign on Friday, as they bowed out of post-season play in the semifinals of the NCCAA DII North Region Tournament. Emmaus faced off against a very good Providence University College (Otterburne, MB) squad, and although the Lady Eagles kept it close it wasn't enough against the hard hitting Lady Pilots (23-25, 18-25, 22-25).

Even though the loss brought the sadness that is inevitable with the end of the season, the Lady Eagles felt no disappointment with what they achieved this fall. Emmaus fought hard in conference play to earn second place in the regular season standings, and made it all the way to the MCCC Tournament championship match. The Lady Eagles also made extra efforts in non-conference play, which landed them with a #12 national power rating, enabling the team to get to the regional semifinal match.

Coach Pitman summed up the season:

"I am incredibly proud of these ladies, as is Coach Richter. We worked hard this season to improve every day, and though it wasn't easy it was amazing to see us trend upward for the entire season. For just one of many examples, we talked a lot about hitting percentage being one of our top areas to focus on as an indicator of success. In August, we hit .085 as a team.  In September we bumped up to .105.  October: .118.  And in post-season play in November, we hit .158. Even though we didn't win any championships, we played up to our potential as a team, and the ladies are to be commended for buying in to our system, and trusting that doing the right things would pay off in the end. Every player improved their game a ton this fall. We often joked that we used reverse intimidation this season – we won a lot of matches that on paper we should not have, and we had opponents underestimate us. We took on some giants, and we fought hard in every match. Finishing at 12-12 with our level of combined experience is no small feat. More importantly, we loved how the team worked through their struggles this season in a God-honoring way, how we kept a good testimony, and how experienced spiritual and personal growth throughout the year. We grew close through the 5500 miles we traveled, and we are proud of how these ladies represented their school and their Lord through it all!"

The team would like to thank all their families and friends who supported them, both in person and over live streams, as well as the great fans and administration at Emmaus. We look forward to seeing you all again when we take to the court next fall!
