Eagles Squeak Past Kansas Christian

Following their game to Lawrence, KS, the Eagles headed to Overland Park to take on Kansas Christian.  In the first meeting between the teams back in December, Emmaus lost in double overtime.  What would happen in the rematch?

Emmaus went to a zone to help combat the quickness of the Kansas Christian players and to slow them down.  The philosophy seemed to work as the teams battled to a 40-40 tie going into the half.  Emmaus played its second game without forward Cody Cunard but found a way to keep the game close.

The second half was much of the same….two teams that couldn't run away from the other.  Free throws would become crucial down the stretch and both teams wished that a few more had gone in.  One crucial moment for the Eagles was when star guard Steven Horan picked up his fourth foul with around 8 minutes to go in the game.  Fortunately for Emmaus, Horan never fouled out.

Down the stretch, Angelo Lott had a key defensive rebound, Nathaniel Glidewell had big free throw after free throw, and Emmaus had a two point lead with four seconds to go.  As Kansas Christian moved the ball up the court, Horan played very tight defense on the Kansas Christian player who had the ball in three point range and with the shot missing the mark and no fouled called, Emmaus escaped with an 84-82 victory, its fourth of the season.

Glidewell led the Eagles with 26 points and extra help bringing the ball up the court to go along with 6 rebounds.  Horan added 22 points and 5 assists, Matthew Tomlinson scored 15 points and Elijah Reeves gathered 12 rebounds, half being offensive.

Congratulations to the Eagles on a much needed win!
