Barclay Takes Down the Eagles

Emmaus traveled to Faith to take on Barclay in their third conference game of the season and lost 79-73, falling to 0-3 in the MCCC.

Emmaus fell behind Barclay mainly because of two things:  high turnovers as a result of backcourt pressure and traps and cold shooting in the frontcourt.  The score was understandably in Barclay's favor as a result as the Bears took a 16 point lead into intermission.  Steven Horan led the Eagles in first half scoring with 14 points and was supported by Nathaniel Glidewell with 8 points.

Coming out of halftime, the Eagles needed to make a big comeback and that is exactly what they did.  Shots began to find their mark and the team committed fewer turnovers.  The Eagles poured in 49 second half points and took the lead over the Bears late in the half.  However, the Bears were able to regain the lead and defeat the Eagles by 6 points.

The strong second half run was led in part by Emmaus forward, Cody Cunard, who had 17 second half points and 5 rebounds.  Horan had 12 second half points and again avoided fouling out despite playing key minutes in the second half with four fouls.  Matthew Tomlinson and Glidewell added 9 points each in the second stanza.

For the game, Horan scored 26 points and Glidewell and Cunard scored 17 points each.  Nathan Davidson battled hard on the boards, collecting 11 rebounds.

Next up for the Eagles is a weekend trip to Missouri where they will battle Ozark and Calvary in two important conference matchups.  Go Eagles!
