Faith Defeats Emmaus in Overtime

Emmaus men traveled to Des Moines to play Faith in a conference match up on Monday night and another exciting finish for the Eagles resulted.  When the dust had cleared, Faith emerged victorious in overtime by a score of 100-95.

Led by star guard Jon Luke Talton and sharp shooting guard Ryan Kupferschmid, the Eagles knew they would have their hands full.  Faith went inside quite a bit in the first half to take advantage of the their size as they only shot 3 three point shots.  Meanwhile, Emmaus was led by Matthew Tomlinson who had 16 points (including 4-7 from three point range) and Caleb Postma who had 10 points (including 2 three pointers).  Emmaus held a 9 point advantage going into the break and even held a 2 rebound advantage despite a size disadvantage.

The second half saw the Eagles enjoy their largest lead of the game of 14 points early in the half.  However, Faith was hot.  They shot 63% from the field and had many looks at the basket from close range.  Kupferschmid got lose for three three point shots and Talton began to take control of the game for Faith.  Emmaus had no answer for the star guard as Talton ended up with 31 points for the game.

Nonetheless, Emmaus battled.  With around 5 seconds to play in regulation, Emmaus guard Steve Horan drove toward the basket and hit the floor as the ball went out of bounds.  No foul was called and Faith had a chance but Talton fell down on his way to the goal.  

Faith got out to a quick 6 point lead in overtime and Emmaus had some good looks at the basket didn't drop and Faith came away with the victory by 5.  

All five starters scored in double figures for Emmaus, who were playing without two starters inside, Nathaniel Glidewell to injury and Elijah Reeves to sickness.  Caleb Postma scored a season high 23 points to lead the Eagles while both Matthew Tomlinson and Cody Cunard added 18 points each.  Nathan Davidson had his best game of the season battling down low as he ended up with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Steven Horan added 14 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
