Lady Eagles Ready for Postseason

Lady Eagles Ready for Postseason
The Lady Eagles completed their regular season play last Friday against Regional Opponent Maranatha Baptist University. This would be senior night for three of the Lady Eagles (Marissa Kerttula, Nakiah Kimble, Amber Heubner).

Both teams came out firing in the first quarter, but Maranatha was able to gain a small advantage by halftime due to 12 first half turnovers for Emmaus. Riley Harding kept the game close with 10 first half points, and Emmaus went into the break down 28-33.

The Lady Eagles gave it all they had in the second half and showed a determination to be matched by none as they stayed in the game and never gave up. Down by 6 points with 16 seconds left, Emmaus scored a quick four points, followed by two freethrows for Maranatha. In the Final seconds, Tiffany Williams drained a 3 pointer to bring the game within reach, but there was not enough time left and when the final buzzer went off, Maranatha walked away with a 69-68 point win.

Emmaus recorded higher shooting percentages from the field and 3, and had more rebounds and assists than Maranatha, but the difference in the game came from the Sabercats hitting an incredible 21 out of 22 freethrows compared to Emmaus's 8 for 12 from the charity stripe. Highlights came from Riley Harding, who led Emmaus with 16 points and 5 assists, followed by Williams with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, and Kerttula with 10 points.

Coach Graw shared his thoughts for the game: "I felt we showed a lot of fight through foul trouble and injuries. sometimes you win the tight games and sometimes you don't. It's the cycle of life, which is why focusing on the process is so important to us! We stay focused on the process of pursuing excellence through our everyday habits and disciplines, for the glory of Christ."

The Lady Eagles finish off the regular season with a record of 8-13 overall, and 5-0 in Conference. Emmaus will go into the MCCC tournament next week as the #1 seed and have a first round Bye.
