Emmaus Welcomes Heather Cunard as Head Women's Basketball Coach

Heather Cunard hired as head women's basketball coach at Emmaus

Emmaus Bible College and the Emmaus Bible College Athletic Department announce the hiring of Heather Cunard as Head Women's Basketball Coach. Cunard returns to Emmaus in a new role for 2019-20, after completing a Youth Ministry Continuing Education Certificate at the college in 2018-19.

"I am pleased to welcome Coach Cunard back to Dubuque, as the next head coach of our women's basketball program," exclaimed Emmaus Athletic Director, Chris McHugh. "I am confident in her ability to lead our program on the court, while serving as a role model and mentor for the women on our team."

Cunard brings a strong playing background to her first collegiate head coaching position at Emmaus. The Missouri Valley, IA native, enjoyed a four-year, playing career at NAIA institution, MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS. During her time at MidAmerica, Cunard earned NAIA Division I Academic All-American status in 2008, while winning a conference championship and helping her team to the NAIA national tournament.

"I am looking forward to getting to know each of the players on a deeper level and pushing them to further themselves both on the court and in their walk with the Lord," said Cunard.

"My vision is a team that is selfless and outward focused," Cunard added.  "I want us to master the fundamentals and be a team that pushes the pace. I also want to be a team that has fun and truly enjoys playing together! But ultimately, I hope to be a team that keeps the game in perspective and seeks God over anything else. My vision includes a team that builds one another up and fosters confidence and value in each player. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the season!"

Coach Cunard will arrive to campus and Dubuque early in the Fall semester.
