Lady Thunder Too Much for Emmaus

Lady Thunder Too Much for Emmaus

DUBUQUE, IA – The Lady Eagles made a valiant effort, but dropped their conference match against Manhattan Christian College by a score of 1-3.

Set one was all Emmaus as the Lady Eagles were able to control the pace and forced Manhattan into a lot of out of system play, resulting in a 25-18 win.  The Lady Thunder, currently nationally ranked #5 in the NCCAA and #1 in the MCCC, responded in kind and won the second set on aggressive serving and hitting (25-15).  Set three was more of the same, as Manhattan cruised to a 25-10 victory.  "We started struggling with our communication and it affected our confidence; the scoreboard was a reflection of that," commented Coach Pitman.  "Coach Ruter and I were interested to see if we could respond and turn things around for set four."

Emmaus did just that, staying with the Lady Thunder point for point.  The Lady Eagles were on the cusp of pushing to a fifth set, but several key plays by Manhattan earned them the victory (24-26).  "I am proud of how we played in this set, and hopefully we are continuing to learn from tough situations.  Kudos to Manhattan on a well-played match" said Coach Pitman.  "We showed tonight that we have the potential to play with any team in the conference, and Coach Ruter and I are excited to see what we will accomplish in the month of October."

Emmaus sits at 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the MCCC.  The Lady Eagles hit the road tomorrow, traveling to the north side of Chicago for a triangular with Grace Bible College and Dayspring Bible College.
