Emmaus Opens Season with Doubleheader Sweep

DUBUQUE, IA – The Lady Eagles are 2-0 on the young season, as they defeated Gogebic Community College (NJCAA – Ironwood, MI) in straight sets on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Emmaus was able to control the pacing of both matches.  Although Gogebic presented some strong play at the net, the Lady Eagles' passing and defense gave the team many opportunities to transition to success on the offensive side.

"We are still getting comfortable playing with each other, and it was great to see the progression of better play in each set this weekend," commented Coach Pitman.  "We are discovering what our strengths and weaknesses are, and the team feels positive and excited about what is happening on our side of the court so far."

Every player contributed to the wins, with the exception of Kendra Gordon who was out due to illness.  "I am very encouraged by the investment on the part of every player; each individual did a great job in their role when they were on the court," said Coach Pitman.

After taking a well-deserved Labor Day break, Emmaus will have a scrimmage and a practice, and then head to the Chicago area for three matches next weekend.  The Lady Eagles will face off against NAIA opponent Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, IN)on Friday night, and then will head to Lake Zurich, IL to play hosts Dayspring Bible College and NCCAA regional opponent Moody Bible Institute.  Check out the Emmaus Athletics Facebook page or www.emmausathletics.com/live for live streaming information.
