Eagles kicked their season.

Eagles kicked their season.

St. Ambrose-118       Emmaus Bible College-53

In the opening game of the season for the Emmaus Men's Basketball team under new head coach Steve Edmondson the Eagles got off to a great start, but were eventually overwhelmed by the much taller and deeper team from St. Ambrose.  The Eagles jumped out to an early 11 point lead, but St. Ambrose began defending better and crashed the boards on the offensive end picking up 12 first half offensive rebounds.  The Bees also shot very well from the 3 point line as well making 10 of 12 in route to a 68-35 halftime lead.  12 Eagle turnovers in the first half also hurt the Eagles.

The second half was more of the same as St. Ambrose out scored the Eagles 50-18 in route to a 118-53 final score.  Freshman Nacio Dillard and junior Steve Horan were the only Eagles in double figures with 16 and 17 point respectively.  St. Ambrose outrebounded the Eagles 51-25 on the night as they went to 1-0 while the Eagles are 0-1.

Coach Edmondson said after the game that it was a tough night, but things will get better.  "St. Ambrose proved to be a very good team that really shot the ball well and effectively used their size advantage to dominate on the glass tonight.  We were a little shorthanded tonight with a couple of our bigger guys out, but those things are going to happen and you have to learn how to overcome such things.  We'll learn from tonight's game and grow as a team.  We are a fairly young team learning a new system so there will be some growing pains, but if we stick with our knitting we will get where we want to go this season."

The Eagles hit the road this weekend for the first time as they travel to Dayspring.
