Tyrus commented on his decision to join the Eagles: "First and foremost I would like to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for this one of a kind opportunity that he has given me. From the moment I heard about Emmaus It seemed like a great opportunity, the chance to play basketball the sport I love and grow in my spiritual walk with the Lord is exactly what I wanted and Emmaus gives me that. After months of deliberating and praying for God to lead me down the path that he had set for me, I knew Emmaus was where I belong." He added: "I love the vision that Coach Graw has for this program. After having numerous conversations with him and getting to know him better I realized that he is exactly the kind of coach that I want to play for. He's brought in a lot of great people and I know we're going to have a chance to do something special. I can't wait to fulfill my dreams of playing college basketball with those guys and I'm ready to get to work! Let's go Eagles!"

Coach Graw spoke highly of Buckner: "Tyrus brings us another much needed forward with a very versatile skill set. Standing at 6'8", he has the ability to dominate the post, knock down the midrange, and excel on the offensive boards cleaning up missed shots. He reminds me a lot of a Tim Duncan or Lamarcus Aldridge. My first encounter with Tyrus was one I will never forget. A firm shake, eye contact, with a "How ya doing Coach!". One of the most respectful young athletes I've had the pleasure of recruiting and huge piece of our foundation for the next 4 years. Lastly, his love for Jesus is evident in how he lives his life. The foundation of our program is to honor Christ and advance his kingdom, and Tyrus will be a leader in this vision. We are overjoyed to have Tyrus as a part of this program."

Tyrus plans to study Business Administration at Emmaus.
