Emmaus Score Seven in Preseason Win.

The Emmaus men's soccer team kicked off its season with a resounding 7-1 victory over a combination alumni/faculty team. Coaches Ben Brown and Cliff Conrad had been hoping for a strong start to the season, and the scrimmage victory was just that. Coach Brown commended the team's cohesiveness, saying "I was very proud of the way that the guys played as a team. We really worked the ball around and created some great chances."

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead into halftime with goals from junior Elijah Barsness and sophomore Sami Gitonga. After the break, the goals came pouring in with clinical finishes from Elijah Barsness, Joe Olson, and Sami Gitonga. Freshmen Brandon Young and Nick Fairley also got themselves on the score sheet. The lone alumni/faculty goal came from a 58th minute penalty after goalkeeper Mitchell Patzka brought down Alumni's Lewis Shin inside the area.

Coach Conrad was delighted with the result, praising the attacking ability of the Eagles. He also spoke well of both goalkeepers, who each had several important saves to make to keep the Eagles on top.

Competitive play begins this weekend with a home match against Baptist Bible College at 11AM on Saturday. August 27th.
