Ort Signs With The Eagles

Zachary Ort has committed to the Eagles men's soccer program, after signing his letter of intent to play at Emmaus in 2020.

Ort, a defender, will travel east to Dubuque from Newton High School in central Iowa.

Zach featured as the starting right back for a successful Newton Cardinals team during the 2019 Spring season, as he helped lead his squad to a 10-9 record in the competitive Little Hawkeye Conference.  Throughout high school, Ort also played for the Altoona Soccer Club and Iowa Rush South during the Fall seasons.  Unfortunately, Ort's senior high school season was cancelled in Spring 2020.

"We are thrilled to be adding Zach to the Emmaus Men's Soccer program!  It was a pleasure to connect with Zach and his family during their visit to Emmaus in February, and I know that he was ready and looking forward to his senior season this Spring.  I am excited for him to have a chance to jump back on the field this Fall in an Emmaus Eagle uniform."

Zach, who attends Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton, IA, has had a positive experience in the youth ministry at his home church.  The support of his youth pastor, Trenton McNeel, has him excited to be studying and playing soccer at Emmaus.

In reflecting on his decision to attend Emmaus, Zach shared, "I chose Emmaus because it is a perfect fit for my journey to grow closer to God. I am blessed to play soccer with other Christian athletes, and I'm excited to begin this journey with Coach McHugh, with this being his first year as the soccer coach."

"As we start with a new group of players this Fall, I anticipate that Zach will have an opportunity to contribute significantly to our program on and off the field.  Zach has been a part of our team Zoom meetings this Spring, and I look forward to investing in Zach and to seeing how God will grow him during these next four years." stated Coach McHugh.

Ort, plans to study Youth Ministry at Emmaus.
