What a Finish!

What a Finish!

Dubuque, IA - October 6, 2023

In a rematch against the Manhattan Christian College Thunder, Emmaus Bible College delivered a thrilling second-half comeback to secure a remarkable 2-1 victory. The game, played at Fish Field, marked a significant milestone for the Eagles as they earned their first win against the Thunder since 2018, and picked up their third win of the season in the process.

The first half saw Manhattan Christian College opened the scoring though, in the 24th minute, through an individual effort from Cristian Gutierrez, and gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half saw a resurgence and resilience from the Eagles. Cristian Anderson spearheaded the comeback, shaking off defenders to score with a toe-poke to the near post in the 63rd minute, following a determined dribble along the endline and pass from Bennett Kreiner.

Kreiner continued to leave his mark on the game, contributing what could be deemed the "goal of the year" for the Eagles in the 79th minute. Recovering an errant pass out of the back, Edwin Ventura-Magallon found Kreiner with a chipped pass. Kreiner, striking the ball in stride on a half-volley from 30 yards out, placed it perfectly into the corner of the net.

Kreiner's sensational goal gave the Eagles the momentum they needed to close out the game and secure the 2-1 victory.

Emmaus head coach, Chris McHugh, expressed his elation after the game, stating, "What a great team performance today by the guys. We've improved with the ball throughout the season, and today there was a lot of belief and determination that we could get the victory. So, we're excited to see how this can carry us forward into the final stretch of the season."
