Dubuque, IA – September 30, 2024 – Eagle Soccer picked up another win over the weekend, defeating region foe (RV) Kuyper College 3-0 during Homecoming. The Eagles improved to 5-2-1 on the season.
The match kicked off with both teams exchanging opportunities, but it was Emmaus who struck first. Louis Matte scored the opening goal at the 13:16 mark. Despite a spirited effort from Kuyper, which included several shots on goal, they struggled to break through Emmaus's solid defense and goalkeeper Tucker Kapas, who made multiple crucial saves throughout the game.
In the second half, Emmaus maintained momentum. Jake Matte found the net at 73:50, assisted by Bennett Kreiner, extending the lead to 2-0. Just moments later, Josh Matte capped off the scoring with another goal, assisted by his brother Jake, solidifying the Eagles' victory at 3-0.
The Cougars more than doubled the Eagles' shot attempts, 22-10, but Emmaus' defense consistently kept them out of the net. Tucker Kapas recorded 8 saves in the Eagles' fourth shutout of the season.
UP NEXT: The Eagles travel to Ankeny for a rematch against conference opponent Faith Baptist Bible College (3-5). In their previous meeting on September 17, Emmaus emerged victorious with a score of 1-0.
