Columbia, MO - September 20, 2024 - The Men's Cross Country team had standout performances on Saturday at the Larry Young Invite in Columbia, with all five runners qualifying for the NCCAA National meet. Freshman Benjamin Driscoll excelled, breaking the school record for a men's 8K by one minute, with a time of 29:17.
"I am very happy with how our guys ran," said Coach Gerardy. "It was a great opportunity for them to race on a championship-caliber course against very strong competition. We faced an extra obstacle with the heat, as it was still 90 degrees at race time. The guys battled very well, and all five runners ran individual national qualifying times. For each of our freshmen, it was their first time running an 8K. Caleb and Christian both ran faster than their first 8K from last season. I anticipate each of our runners will improve even more and am excited to see what that will look like."
Results:
- Ben Driscoll: 29:17 (School record)
- Matthew Hanselman: 30:20
- Samuel Stapely: 31:19
- Caleb Ness: 33:06
- Christian Vanderkrol: 33:30
Up Next: The men and women are back on the course on October 5th at the Seminole Valley Stampede in Cedar Rapids.
