Eagles split MCCC Openers

Kansas City, MO - The Lady Eagles returned to the court over the weekend going 1-1 in Kansas City, MO to open up their 2022 MCCC campaign.  

On Friday, the Eagles went wire-to-wire in a high scoring win over the Manhattan Christian Thunder.  A strong start to both halves, with 23 points in the opening quarter and 27 points in the 3rd quarter, propelled the Eagles to a 87-72 victory over the Thunder.  

The NCCAA DII's leading scorer, Kia Gelinas, dropped 34 points and 10 rebounds to propel the offense, while three other Eagles joined in with double figures.  Riley Harding tallied 13 points, Alyssa Classen added 12 points, and Hannah Boyer was the second leading scorer with 18 points.  

On Saturday, the Eagles returned to action dropping a high-tempo, competitive game 56-62 against the Barclay Bears.  

After being down 9 points at the half, the Eagles used another strong 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 2 points. However, the Eagles scoring could not keep pace in the fourth quarter, as Barclay sealed the win inside the last minute.  

The Eagles were again led by Gelinas with 21 points, 7 rebounds and Harding with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. 

The Lady Eagles return to action this Friday and Saturday, January 14-15, with games in Joplin, MO and Kansas City, MO against Ozark Christian and Calvary University, respectively.
