Lady Eagles Recognized at a National Level

Lady Eagles Recognized at a National Level

The Women's Basketball team finished a successful season by earning several individual awards at the Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament last week.

Dr. Marti MacCullough award finalist:

Senior Kia Gelinas was nominated for the Dr. Marti MacCullough award, which is considered one of the highest honors in the NCCAA and is a part of the GP4L character award series. The award is designed to recognize and honor student-athletes who exemplify the values of Love, Integrity, Faith, and Excellence. As described on the NCCAA website:

"Dr. Marti MacCullough accumulated over 300 wins and eight NCCAA Regional Championships during coaching stints at Lancaster Bible College and Philadelphia Biblical University (now Cairn University). Marti coached in eight NCCAA National Championships and was named NCCAA Coach of the Year twice. She served as National Sport Chair and Vice-Chair for multiple terms. Marti taught her teams that God is not separate from our athletic life and that their play is an act of worship given back to the Lord. The NCCAA is honored to be able to present this award in the name of Dr. Marti MacCullough."

This award is given each year to someone who is not only a skilled basketball player, but also demonstrates consistent strong character, serves her community, and performs well academically. This years award went to Callie Morrison, who attends Maranatha Baptist University.

1st Team All-American:

Gelinas finished her career once again being named an NCCAA DII All-American. In addition to leading the nation in scoring from start to finish this season, Kia was ranked in 4 other statistical categories to prove she was a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the court.

Scholar Athletes:

The Scholar Athlete award is presented to Juniors and Seniors who have maintained a 3.5 or higher overall GPA. The Lady Eagles had three student-athletes represent Emmaus in receiving this award:
