Emmaus Athletic Director, Chris McHugh is thrilled to introduce Cody Cunard as the new head coach for the Women's Basketball program. "We are excited to welcome back a familiar face to the Emmaus community. Coach Cunard brings a breadth of experiences and a passion for coaching that fits right in with our college's values and mission."
Coach Cunard, a 2020 Emmaus alum, has an extensive background in both playing and coaching basketball. He played at Crossroads College and Emmaus Bible College, and coached as an assistant for Emmaus Men's basketball in 2019-20. Outside of basketball, Coach Cunard is active in his local church at Community Evangelical Free Church in Platteville, WI., and is the owner of Tri-state Window Cleaning. Cody Cunard is married to Kendra, and they have two young children, Caroline and Jedediah.
For Coach Cunard, coaching at Emmaus is an opportunity to impact the lives of young women through the game of basketball. "Coaching at Emmaus will give me the opportunity to coach and recruit athletes who share a common mission of wanting to glorify God with every part of their lives." His approach is deeply influenced by his favorite Bible verse, John 3:30: "He must become greater; I must become less." Coach Cunard strives to "live a life that points others to Jesus, without accepting any of the glory for myself."
Coach Cunard's vision for the Women's Basketball program centers around two core values: "I want our women's program to embody 'Excellence and Unity,' while fostering strong, supportive relationships among teammates. Our aim is to bring glory to God with excellent preparation, excellent attitudes, and excellent effort." His goal is to "foster an environment where student-athletes are challenged to grow physically and spiritually, but also free to make mistakes. We want to compete, have fun, and build lifelong relationships."
Coach Cunard's message to prospective student-athletes builds upon the themes that have been established throughout the program's history. "If you love Jesus and love the game of basketball, Emmaus is a great place to be," shared Coach Cunard. "Emmaus provides an incredible community of like-minded believers, that are ready to compete at a high level. At Emmaus, student-athletes will find coaches who love Jesus and want to see you succeed. And if you attend Emmaus, you will have experiences and build friendships that will last a lifetime."
