Emmaus Continues Strong Play at Home

DUBUQUE, IA – The Lady Eagles improved to 13-1 as regular season play reached the halfway point this past weekend.

Friday night saw Emmaus pitted against NAIA opponent Silver Lake College (Manitowoc, WI).  The Lady Lakers presented some large blocks, but the Lady Eagles were able to control the pace of the match with a quick offense and won in straight sets with all players contributing to the effort (25-9, 25-7, 25-18).

On Saturday morning Emmaus faced off against Calvary University (Kansas City, MO) in an MCCC match.  The Lady Eagles defeated a hard digging Lady Warrior team in straight sets (25-9, 25-18, 25-20).  Emmaus finished off the day with a win over Dayspring Bible College (Mundelein, IL) with a 3-0 score as well (25-8, 25-8, 25-9).

"We worked hard at some improving some areas of our game in live action this weekend, and we will continue to do so even at the cost of an increase in errors along the way," commented Coach Pitman.  "Growth is more important than the scoreboard as we work toward post season play, and it is encouraging to see the team pushing for improvement even if we aren't executing these new aspects really well yet.  I was also very happy to see great contributions by players coming off the bench when called upon this weekend."

Hanna Postma had 81 assists over the 3 matches, which led to strong offensive efforts by Wynne Vandersall (25 kills), Paige Sweeney (16 kills), Elizabeth Brame (16 kills), Nicole Gordon (8 Kills), and Kendra Gordon (6 kills).  Savannah Petersen kept the back line defense running with 51 digs.

The Lady Eagles have another week left in their home stand, as they face MCCC opponent Faith Baptist on Tuesday and Mt. Mary University (NCAA DIII) on Friday.
