Emmaus Digs Deep in Wisconsin

Emmaus Digs Deep in Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, WI – The Lady Eagles returned home from their trek across Wisconsin with two victories, but both were narrowly won, as Emmaus had to come from behind in each match.

In Friday's matchup against Silver Lake College (NAIA - Manitowoc, WI), Emmaus was able to catch the Lady Lakers on their heels in the first part of the first set, coming away with a 25-20 victory.  Silver Lake countered with offensive firepower in sets two and three, winning by scores of 25-16 and 25-20.  The Lady Eagles rallied for a 25-15 victory in the fourth, setting up their first fifth set of the season.  It was a tight back and forth affair, and Silver Lake was on the cusp of victory with match point (14-13).  However, Emmaus was able to run with three straight points to seal the match (16-14).

After a late night and another long drive, the Lady Eagles faced off with Western Technical College (NJCAA DIII – La Crosse, WI).  The Lady Cavaliers controlled the pacing for the first two sets, as Emmaus errors put them on the losing side of the scoreboard (20-25, 16-25).  After dwelling on a few focus points before set three, the Lady Eagles rebounded to take the third and fourth setting up another fifth set battle (25-16, 25-19).  This time Emmaus led the whole way, and closed out the match with a score of 15-11.

"This was a good weekend of growth for us," commented Coach Pitman.  "Trying out new rotations and roles is never easy, and we got more great information on what is working and what is not.  While we like the results, we are still not very focused on the scoreboard, but more on our quality of play.  It was most encouraging to see our team's mettle – we know that we will always encounter adversity, and it is how we respond that is important.  Even though we know we have a large amount of work to do to improve our game, we should be very proud of the progress we have made so far."

The Lady Eagles head out on the road on Tuesday (September 10th) for a match with Ellsworth Community College (NJCAA DII) in Iowa Falls, IA.  Emmaus will then host their first home match of the season on Friday (September 13th), as they re-match with Silver Lake.  Visit the Emmaus Volleyball Website or the Emmaus Athletics Facebook page for live stream info and updates.
