Emmaus Splits Opening Weekend Matches

Emmaus Splits Opening Weekend Matches

WYOMING, MI – The Lady Eagles returned from their first matches of the 2021 campaign with a loss to Grace Christian University (0-3) and win over Great Lakes Christian College (3-1).

Due to circumstances beyond their control, Emmaus faced a very late arrival and a short sleep before taking on the defending NCCAA Mid-East champs (Grace) in the first match of the day. Anticipation and nerves got the better of the Lady Eagles to start set one, but the team improved their play as the match progressed.

After a short break, Emmaus returned to the court against Great Lakes. The Lady Eagles took the first two sets, but Great Lakes countered with a narrow set three victory (24-26). Emmaus found their groove again in the fourth set and was able to close out the match and earn their first victory of the season.

"This was a great first outing for our team and we had a lot of fun playing," commented Coach Pitman. "We are beginning to learn how we handle adversity and tough situations, and we know that is an important part of the process in building our team. As far as our play, we saw many flashes of great things happening on the court. We know we have a large list of items to improve on, but we also know that this group is up to the challenge. I appreciated how the ladies stayed very positive throughout the weekend in every circumstance!"

The Lady Eagles take to the road again this weekend, heading to Kansas City to open conference play at the MCCC Classic. Emmaus will take on Manhattan Christian College at 7:00 pm on Friday and Barclay College at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
