Emmaus Comes up Short in the Battle of The Eagles

Emmaus Comes up Short in the Battle of The Eagles

DUBUQUE, IA – It was another great night of volleyball in the Pollard Fieldhouse, but despite their best efforts the Emmaus volleyball team came up short in the battle with Faith Baptist (Ankeny, IA).

The Lady Eagles started with a bang, as numerous Faith errors gave Emmaus an early lead.  Once Faith found their footing the match would be a tighter affair, with both teams working hard defensively, and set one was decided by 2 points (25-27).  Emmaus had a lapse in attack accuracy in the second set, causing them to lose by a margin of 11 points (14-25) -  but tightened up play in set three to keep it close (26-28).

"This is our third match in this new rotation, and scoreboard aside I thought our performance was an improvement over the weekend," said Coach Pitman.  "It is not easy to be on the losing side, but we are constantly reminding ourselves that we are looking for proper skill execution and consistent play first – and then we will start worrying about scores.  We as a coaching staff are very proud of these ladies – they are embracing their roles as a team and are sticking together when things are tough.  Above all, we are working to glorify God through our sport, and it has been great to see them live out this perspective."

The Lady Eagles continue their home stand this week with two more very tough matches.  Emmaus will host the Lady Archers of Moody Bible (NCCAA DII) on Friday, followed by defending North Region champs Maranatha Baptist (NCAA DIII) on Saturday.  Match times are 6:30 pm Friday and 4:00 pm Saturday in the Pollard Fieldhouse.
