Two Sweeps For Homecoming

Dubuque, IA - September 30, 2024 - Eagle Volleyball (8-4) picked up two more wins over Homecoming weekend, earning sweeps over North Region opponent Maranatha Baptist on Friday and conference foe Central Christian on Saturday.

Backed by an energized Homecoming crowd on Friday, the Eagles dominated in all categories, although errors plagued them for much of the night. The Sabercats struggled against the Eagle defense, hitting -.011 and recording only 16 kills. Despite the errors, Emmaus secured a decisive victory with set scores of 25-8, 25-20, and 25-18.

Selah Gregory led the way with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .474. Michelle Striley contributed 5 kills, 12 digs, and 2 service aces. The team totaled 41 kills while hitting .118.

Saturday morning saw a regrouped and refocused Emmaus take on conference opponent Central Christian. After a strong first set by the Saints, the Eagles turned it on and never looked back, allowing only 18 points in the final two sets.

Kaitlin Rahn had the biggest impact for the Eagles, tallying 9 kills with just 1 error while also contributing 8 digs. Freshman Beverly Cummins added 8 kills, 3 service aces, and 8 digs.

"Overall, we had a really good weekend. It was encouraging to finish both matches on strong notes and to see how the team continued to fight together, even through some tough moments. We are looking forward to continuing our conference and regional play this week," added Coach Hannah Richter.

UP NEXT: The Eagles travel to Ankeny to play a conference match against Faith Baptist Bible College. This will be the first meeting of the season; the Faith Eagles are 10-6 and have won their last two contests.
